Our Tabbies Weight Check is a little late this month, but I decided to reschedule their monthly weight check from the first week to this week out of respect with the recent events. I did, however, weigh each tabby at the beginning of January to stay within the month to month weight checks. I am thrilled to share more weight loss for the tabbies that need to shed some pounds and weight maintenance for the tabbies that are already within their healthy weight ranges. Without further ado, let’s check their progress!

Routine
Our routine to help the tabbies maintain or lose weight is exercise, exercise and exercise! All of the tabbies are 100% indoor cats. The only downside of being indoors is they tend to get less physical activity than outdoor cats. So, I am making up for that with providing them the physical and mental stimulation in the home. Their form of exercise is daily interactive playtime! The mistake I have made in the past is thinking the tabbies are getting enough exercise by playing with each other, but I was wrong. They need dedicated daily play sessions to help with their weight and overall enrichment.
Each tabby plays differently which requires toys that meet their needs. Cappuccino, Latte and Ranger are high energy cats. They react best to wand toys which give them plenty of opportunities of jumping and running. I consider them my “high intensity interval training” cats! Maggie and Marmalade are more of chasers. They like to stay low to the ground and grab their toys. I call them my “low impact workout” cats! Regardless of their style of playtime, they each get a fun “workout”.
Food
The food our pets eat is crucial to their health and weight. However, recommending the types of foods that work great for one may not be good for another. A caring and compassionate veterinarian will take the time to discuss the best options for your pets. I went over the best food options with the veterinarian for the tabbies, and we found a diet that seems to work for them, and the tabbies approve! I had many failures with their food, but we eventually found the winning combination of a healthy and yummy diet!
So that wraps up our Tabby Weight Check for this month. I hope to share more progress next month. Either way, what I do know is the tabbies are having a blast playing. Their health and happiness is what counts! ?
