Ranger

Ranger is our 3-year-old energetic brown tabby boy. We adopted Ranger when he was just 8 weeks old, and life with Ranger has been an adventure ever since he joined our family. He was a poofy little kitten full of life. Altough his hair became sleek and smooth, his sparkle is still the same!

We knew when we adopted Ranger that he was dramatic boy, and we were prepared to give him the time and attention he needed. He had and still has a meow that can be heard throughout the house. Honestly, Ranger has serious FOMO. Where we are there Ranger is too. Bathroom, bedroom, you name it, if the door is shut he will cry and even pull on the doorknob until we let him in. Rest assured, Ranger is rarely left out. We love him so much, and having Ranger with us at all times is not too much to ask. His animated personality keeps our spirits up, gives us so much laughter, and our home is filled with absolute joy.

As adorable as Ranger is, he has certainly had his challenges in his first 3 years. Ranger had a rough start when we adopted him. It was one parasite after another. Within a week of us adopting Ranger, he developed diarrhea which was caused by coccidia. Ranger was as cute as a button, but he smelled awful! I mean awful! We loved our cute & stinky boy, but the diarrhea was nothing to joke about especially for a small kitten. We got rid of the coccidia, but giardia came knocking next, then came tapeworm. We were able to get rid of each parasite one by one, but the worst eventually reared its ugly head, lungworms. Ranger had an aggressive case of lungworms, and it wreaked havoc in his body. We went through rounds and rounds of medications. The stubborn parasite left residual damage on Ranger’s health. The lungworms are gone, but Ranger now has asthma along with an over-reactive immune system. We have gone through rounds of steroids, antibiotics, Atopica, more steroids, and a fair share of procedures. We are still learning what triggers Ranger’s asthma, but his veterinarian and I have found a treatment plan that is working with as little side effects as possible. We will deal with whatever comes up, but today Ranger is doing well. If I had a crystal ball that would show me what we would face with Ranger, I would have not changed a thing. Ranger saved us as much as we saved him.

Ranger helped welcome our first foster kitty, named Marmalade, to our home. Ranger was adopted from the same rescue that Marmalade was with, so they were not complete strangers. After the 14 day quarantine, I would bring Ranger into the foster room to play with Marmalade. It did not take long to see the bond Ranger and Marmalade had. Ranger was going to be our one and only kitty, but the universe had other plans. Tomorrow, the story continues with Marmalade.
