Homemade Hummingbird Nectar

Homemade nectar for your backyard hummingbirds.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated white sugar Do not use brown sugar or honey
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  • Pour the sugar and water in a pot on the stovetop.
  • Dissolve mixture over medium heat. Stir while heating. (Do NOT bring to a boil.)
  • Once sugar has dissolved, remove pot from heat.
  • Let nectar cool to room temperature.
  • Pour prepared nectar in hummingbird feeder and enjoy watching your happy hummingbirds!

Notes

You can double the recipe and store the extra nectar in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 weeks. Just bring the nectar to room temperature before putting the food out for the hummingbirds.
