Marinara Sauce

This simple and uncomplicated marinara sauce adds bright and fresh flavors!

Ingredients

  • 1 T extra-virgin olive oil
  • 5-6 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 28- oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 t dried basil
  • 1/4 t dried oregano
  • 1 dried bay leaf
  • 1 t kosher salt
  • 1/4 t black pepper
  • 1/4 t sugar

Instructions

  • in a medium pot over medium-high heat, add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and saute for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until fragrant and golden. Do not allow the garlic to burn (it will be bitter).
  • Add the tomatoes, basil, oregano, bay leaf, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.
  • Once the mixture is simmering, lower the heat to medium-low. Continue to cook at a simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Remove the bay leaf. Add additional salt & pepper if desired.
  • Remove from the heat!
  • Enjoy with your favorite pasta or in any dish that calls for marinara sauce.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or the freezer for up to 3 months.
